May 31, 2017 One of the most visited and close to home diving destination for Americans is Cozumel, Mexico. Located off the coast of Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel is easily reachable from the United States. Many US cities offer daily direct flights to Cancun, and from there, it’s a short bus ride, followed by a short ferry ride, and you are in Cozumel, so getting there is much shorter and often much cheaper than other farther diving destinations. Once on the island, you are literally surrounded with many great diving resorts. I recently returned from a 4 day vacation in Cozumel. Because it’s so close, I only needed to take 5 days off work, and I was able to dive 3 days out of a 4 day vacation. Accommodations, food and other travel related expenses are very reasonable, making Cozumel an even more attractive destination for a quick, not.expensive, but otherwise a great diving vacation. Even though Cozumel is close and the vacation expenses are not that high, I still highly recommend making sure that you are properly covering the trip, as well your diving. Don’t let the proximity and low cost cloud your judgement. If you have to cancel your trip make sure to minimize your losses, and if you have a medical emergency, diving related or not, make sure to be properly covered for when those bills start piling up. For this trip, I covered myself with the single-trip Deluxe program by DiveAssure. The program offers high limits and a very broad list of coverage benefits, at a very competitive rate. Also, the fact that the program offers primary coverage means that if something goes wrong, your insurance company will be able to pay directly to the service provider. As always, if you have any questions about Cozumel, insurance options, or anything else, contact me anytime!
